It was a fantastic Northern Light display during the morning twilight hours, following a strong solar wind shock at 12:37 UTC on March 15, 2012. Patiently spending a long night at Cleary Summit (near Fairbanks, Alaska) I was rewarded at dawn by the appearance of very strange looking auroras - triggered by the onset of a major geomagnetic storm as a coronal mass ejection impacted Earth's magnetosphere.
